How to keep your team motivated all year round
Throughout the year, team morale in the workplace can fluctuate. There are so many factors that can influence it, from the weather, to global news events, and even what might be going on within the team members personal lives.
As a business owner/line manager, you want to ensure your employees are motivated about coming into work every day, as ultimately, if they’re in good form, it benefits your business too.
Create a positive environment
If you really think about it, a lot of us spend the majority of our time at work, and we can often spend more time with you and our colleagues than our own families, so creating a positive work environment is a must.
Communication, trust and mutual respect are all ingredients to make a positive working environment. If your employees feel heard, valued and supported, they’re more likely to stay engaged and motivated.
You can encourage team collaboration, recognise achievements, offer flexibility and promote a healthy work-life balance in order to help your team feel comfortable and confident in the workplace.
Show your appreciation
A simple ‘thank you’ can go a long way towards helping boost an employee’s confidence and making them feel valued. So, if an employee has worked extra hard recently, achieved a milestone or achieved a qualification, show your appreciation for their dedication!
We appreciate it isn’t always possible, but where you can, rewarding or incentivising teams can really help keep people on track. It also helps to gently boost competitive spirit amongst the team and give them something else to work towards.
Set goals
Employees are likely to feel more motivated and will perform at their best when they have clear ambitions and goals to work towards. These should stretch people beyond their comfort zone, but still remain realistic and achievable.
When setting goals for yourself and your team, focus on objectives that genuinely inspire them and lead to outcomes they can feel proud of. If a goal doesn’t resonate or feel meaningful, enthusiasm and engagement are unlikely to follow.
Watch for signs of boredom
A lack of inspiration and challenges can lead to a bored workforce. This can zap productivity quickly. A good way to prevent this is to try and avoid routines and allow employees to become a little inventive with those tasks that are mundane or repetitive. You could even ask colleagues to switch roles in order to change things up a bit.
