Mid year performances
Engaged employees? Does this matter? IMO, absolutely! Employees are at the core of your organisation’s success; if they are happy, this increases motivation and productivity which eventually boosts profitability.
HOW DO MID-YEAR REVIEWS PLAY A PART?
Most managers are very busy and if mid-year reviews are optional, they may think twice about giving themselves additional unnecessary work. Our experience in helping clients through employee concerns throughout the year has shown us how important mid-year performance reviews are, for both the employees and organisations. Here's a breakdown of why they matter:
1. Course correction (sometimes improvement)
Timely feedback: They provide a chance to assess progress and make adjustments before the end of the year. Underperformance can be addressed sooner, with support plans or coaching.
Avoid surprises: Employees aren’t blindsided at year-end; they already know where they stand and are given the opportunity to improve, if needed.
2. Goal alignment
Realignment with priorities: Business goals usually shift throughout the year. Reviews help ensure employees are still aligned with new priorities.
Personal goals check-in: Employees can adjust individual objectives in response to changes in role or company direction.
3. Motivation and engagement
Recognition: Acknowledging achievements mid-year boosts morale and motivation.
Development focus: It gives employees a chance to discuss career aspirations, skills gaps and development opportunities.
4. Communication and transparency
Two-way conversation: Reviews foster dialogue between managers and employees, building trust and clarity.
Feedback loop: Managers also get valuable feedback on what support or resources employees need.
The benefits far outweigh the reason not to do it!
