Official last day of Winter

The Last Day of Winter: Embracing the Season of Renewal

As Thursday 20th March marks the official end of winter, we can finally look forward to brighter evenings, warmer days, and the feeling of renewal that spring brings. The long, dark winter months can be challenging, yet they also offer a valuable period of reflection and resilience — what some call "Wintering."  ( also a lovely book by Katherine May)

Surviving the Wintering

Wintering is more than just enduring cold weather; it's about those periods in life where things feel slower, quieter, or even harder. For many, winter is a season of retreat — a time to conserve energy, reflect on the past year, and prepare for growth. Just like nature slows down to rest, so do we. It's a time for self-care, inner work, and building strength for the brighter days ahead.

Welcoming the Spring

Now, as spring approaches, we can embrace the fresh energy that comes with it. The longer evenings invite us to step outside, connect with others, and refresh our minds. New life blooms all around us — from daffodils dancing in the breeze to birds singing their morning songs — all reminding us that growth is always possible, even after the darkest times.

Spring in the Workplace

From an HR perspective, spring presents an ideal time to:

  • Reignite Engagement: Encourage team-building activities, outdoor meetings, or wellness initiatives to boost morale.

  • Refresh Goals: Help employees reflect on their achievements and set new objectives for the months ahead.

  • Review Well-being Support: Consider promoting mental health resources, flexible working options, or mindfulness practices to encourage positivity and resilience.

  • Spring Clean Processes: Just as we refresh our homes, this is a great time to review policies, update documentation, and ensure everything is in top shape for the rest of the year. (Do you need a HR Audit - we can help with all of these 😉)

So, as we bid farewell to winter and welcome the first signs of spring, let's embrace this season of growth, renewal, and brighter horizons. Whether you choose to plant new ideas, nurture relationships, or simply bask in the longer evenings, there's no better time to step forward with fresh energy and purpose.
